AssessPrep offers four delivery modes that balance convenience and security. Choose the mode that fits your assessment’s stakes and your students’ devices.
Index
Browser (No Security)
- Students can take the test using any standard browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer.
- No installation is required; the test runs directly in the browser.
- Best for low‑stakes assessments like quizzes, homework or practice tasks.
- Offers no built‑in security—students can access other files or websites during the test.
Browser with Security (Medium Level Security)
- Works in any standard browser without installing software.
- If a student clicks outside the test window, the system shows a focus lost alert and prompts the student to explain before re‑entering the test.
- In Monitor tab, Teachers see which students lost focus, how many times and for how long, both during and after the assessment.
Lockdown App(Highest Level Security)
- Uses a dedicated application (Safe Exam Browser or AssessPrep App) that locks down the device.
- Prevents access to files, programs, copy‑paste and screenshots.
- Requires installation on Windows, Mac OS or iOS; needs internet to start the test and submit final responses. How to install & run the AssessPrep App on your Mac and How to install & run Safe Exam Browser (SEB) for your AssessPrep test (Windows Version)
- Recommended for summative assessments on supported devices.
- If the app fails or a student needs to switch devices, you can temporarily allow them to continue in Browser with Security via the Monitor tab.
- Once "Allow in browser " has been enabled for the student, they would be able to commence the test by clicking on "Join"
Paper Mode
- Lets you create and assign pen‑and‑paper assessments within AssessPrep.
- You can download and print personalised test booklets with each student’s name and AssessPrep code.
- Students complete the paper test offline, and you grade and analyse the results online.
- Ideal for hybrid setups or where devices are limited. Click here for more details on this mode - Pen and Paper assessment with Paper Mode
Which security level should I use?
- Use the Lockdown App whenever possible for high‑stakes exams and supported devices.
- Use Browser with Security or Browser for lower‑stakes quizzes or when students are on mobile, Android tablets or Linux.
- Always monitor students in person, as no technology can eliminate all risks of cheating.
