Getting started:
To use the Analyse feature effectively, the teacher must first complete a few steps. Start by creating the assessment and assigning it to the students. Once the students have submitted their work, grade their assessments to ensure all responses are evaluated. After grading is complete, click on the Analyse button. This is where we begin exploring the powerful insights this feature provides.
Once the Analyse button is clicked, the screen provides a detailed view of the student performance metrics. This tab provides valuable insights into student performance. It has three key sections:
Let’s begin with the Summary tab.
Summary Tab
The Summary tab gives an overall picture of how students performed in the assessment. Here’s what each section means and how it helps:
Submissions and Graded:
- This section shows how many students submitted the assessment and how many submissions have been graded. For example, the image shows 14 submissions, all of which are graded. This ensures the data reflects complete results and confirms student participation.
Performance Metrics:
- Average percentage: The average percentage of 71.5% provides a quick snapshot of overall class performance.
- Average score: The average score of 15.6 highlights how students performed in raw points relative to the total possible score.
- Highest score: The top-performing student achieved a score of 17.8, showcasing the best result in the class.
- Lowest score: The lowest-performing student scored 5, helping identify those who may need extra attention or support.
Score distribution chart:
-
- This bar chart visually represents how students' scores are spread across score ranges. For instance, the chart shows that most students scored between 70–80 and 80–90, helping you spot performance clusters or outliers at a glance.'
Note: When the assessment is based on 'Criteria with Points', the Performance Matrices card functions as follows:
-
- Users can select a specific criterion from the dropdown menu.
- Detailed performance metrics for the selected criterion are displayed:
- Average Percentage
- Average Score
- Highest Score
- Lowest Score
- This helps in analysing the performance of each criterion individually.
Questions Tab
The Questions tab in the Analyse feature allows teachers to focus on how students performed on individual questions. This tab provides detailed insights into question-level performance and highlights areas of strength and improvement. Here’s how it works:
Question Performance Bar Chart:
-
- At the top, there’s a Question Performance Bar Chart that shows the average percentage score for each question.
- The X-axis represents the questions (e.g., 1.1, 1.2, 1.3), and the Y-axis represents the average percentage score for each question.
- Taller bars indicate questions where students performed well, while shorter bars highlight questions where students faced challenges.
Question Breakdown Table:
Below the chart, there’s a table that breaks down performance for each question:
-
- Questions : Lists the question numbers for easy reference.
- Type : Displays the type of question, such as MCQ, short answer, or essay.
- Standards : Indicates the learning standard or topic linked to the question, helping teachers identify specific curriculum areas where improvement is needed.
- Max Points : Shows the maximum points a student could score on each question.
- Avg. Points : Reflects the average raw score earned by students on each question.
- Avg. % : Displays the average percentage score for the question, making it easy to compare performance across questions.
- Attempted % : Indicates the percentage of students who attempted the question. A lower percentage may highlight unclear instructions or difficulty understanding the question.
