Welcome to the AssessPrep AI Writing Assistant Guide! The AI Writing Assistant is designed to assist you while you write content, questions, explanations, or feedback for students. With a few clicks, you can:

• Fix grammar and spelling errors
• Make your writing clearer and more concise
• Expand or condense your writing
• Adjust the tone and style of your writing
• Generate brand new text from scratch!

Using the AI Writing Assistant

The AI Writing Assistant works in two ways: improving existing content and generating new content.

Improve existing content: The AI Writing Assistant can be used to edit or transform the entire text in the text box or just a part of it. Simply follow these steps:

1. 1. Select the text you want to change. You can select a single word, a sentence, a paragraph, or even the entire text.
   2. Click the AI Writing Assistant icon. This icon looks like a magic wand and is located within the rich text editor.
   3. Choose a command. You can choose from a list of predefined commands, or you can type a custom command.
   4. Insert or replace. Once the AI generates the text, you have several options.
      • Replace the selection
      • Insert after the selection
      • Try again
      • Cancel

Generate new text: 

1. Click the AI Writing Assistant icon: The magic wand icon in the text editor.
2. Provide a custom command: Tell the AI what you want to create. Be specific!
   1. Example: "Write a 100-word explanation of renewable energy."
3. Refine and finalize: The AI will generate text based on your command. You can ask for revisions until you're satisfied.

Predefined Prompts

The AI Writing Assistant offers several predefined options to help you improve or transform your text. These options are consistent across all use cases within AssessPrep:

• Make shorter: Condense your text while preserving key information.
• Make longer: Expand your text with more detail and examples.
• Fix spelling & grammar: Ensure your text is polished and error-free.
• Explain: Get a more detailed explanation of the selected text.
• Simplify language: Make your writing more accessible and understandable.
• Translate to [Language]: Translate your text into your chosen language.
• Change tone: Adjust the tone to be professional, funny, conversational, or friendly.

Custom Prompts

In addition to the predefined options, you can use custom prompts to instruct the AI Writing Assistant to perform specific tasks. Here are some examples:

• "Continue writing"
• "Summarize"
• "Expand on this idea"
• "Rewrite this in simpler terms"
• "Make this more engaging"
• "Translate this to Spanish"
• "Change the tone to be more formal"
• "Provide a real-world example"

Where to Use the AI Writing Assistant?

1. Generate or Transform Text Content

Generate from scratch: You can use the AI Writing Assistant to generate and improve text content directly in your assessment. Click the Assistant icon and provide a custom command like “ Write 100 words on photosynthesis”

Improving existing: The AI Writing Assistant can also help you enhance or transform existing content. This includes text you have written, inserted, or copied into the text box.

Use Case Examples:

• Command: "Continue writing about the benefits of exercise."
• Command: "Summarize this paragraph on photosynthesis."
• Command: "Make this explanation more engaging for 10th graders."

2. Enhance Question Text

Improve or Transform Questions: When you add a question or any explanation, the AI Writing Assistant can help you refine it.

Use Case Examples:

• Command: "Make this question more challenging."
• Command: "Simplify this question for younger students."
• Command: "Generate a similar question with different values."

3. Improve Answer Explanations

The AI Writing Assistant can enhance the clarity and quality of your answer explanations. For AI generated answer explanations, you need to add the explanation by clicking on the "Use" button and then click the magic wand to access the writing assistant.

Use Case Examples:

• Command: "Rewrite this explanation in simpler terms."
• Command: "Expand this explanation with an example."
• Command: "Clarify this answer for better understanding."

4. Improve Grading Feedback

The AI Writing Assistant can also assist in improving feedback generated by you or the AI.

Use Case Examples:

• Command: "Enhance this feedback to be more constructive."
• Command: "Translate this feedback to French."
• Command: "Change the tone of this feedback to be more encouraging."

Tips for Effective Use

• Be Specific: The more specific your command, the better the AI can assist you.
• Experiment: Try different commands and options to see which work best for your needs.
• Review: Always review the AI-generated content to ensure it meets your standards and needs.
